The Amy Murphy Studio is proudly located in Birmingham, Alabama.

The Studio also maintains a large virtual clientele across the country and around the world (Hello Guatemala, Romania, and London!). Amy has trained teachers, now certified in the Amy Murphy Technique, that are based in New York City.

Amy Murphy
Owner, Founder, Inventor

Trained in Opera Performance and Music Education at Juilliard and New England Conservatory of Music, Amy Murphy has sung and taught professionally for 31 years, the result of which is her Patented Vocal Technique (Patent No. 8,629,341).  Her performances include: The International Hayden Festival in Vienna, Carnegie Hall, Radio City Music Hall, the Uris Theatre and the Winter Garden Theatre, Lincoln Center at Avery Fisher Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Cami Hall and the Dicapo Opera Theatre.  Amy has toured with opera companies in Europe as well as the states.

 

Amy maintains a large private voice studio in Birmingham.  She conducts the Junior League of Birmingham Choral Group, an accomplished Women’s Chorus whose performances spread joy and goodwill throughout the greater Birmingham area.  Under Amy’s direction, the group has expanded their repertoire and reach, with repeated Carnegie Hall appearances.  Amy has taught Voice at the University of Alabama and is currently on staff as Adjunct Professor at the University of Montevallo. She is also a certified teacher K-9/5-12 in both choral and instrumental concentrations.

Alex Kidder

Alex Kidder is a born and bred New Yorker. She has been taught by Amy Murphy since she was three years old. Under Amy's guidance, Alex was the youngest person, at the age of five, accepted to the Metropolitan Opera Children's Chorus, directed by Elena Doria.  

 

She is a graduate of CAP21 at NYU Tisch. She received Tisch's highest distinction: Tisch's Outstanding Achievement in Studio, along with her BFA in Musical Theatre and Minor in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. She holds a Masters in Acting from ArtsEd in London, and is currently splitting her time between the UK and NYC. Being the head Teaching Associate at the Amy Murphy Studio is her greatest honor.  The AMM works. Consistently, healthily, tension-free, 8 shows a week. 

Lexie Sharp

Lexie Dorsett Sharp is a Birmingham, AL now based in New York City. She holds a BFA in musical theatre from the Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music. Lexie is a performer, director/choreographer, and certified AMMethod teacher.As a performer, she has been seen across the globe in Broadway National Tours such as The School of Rock, The Addams Family, Elf, and Young Frankenstein.

 

She is the proud owner and operator of Sharp Studios, an audition preparation studio in NYC. Lexie also has taught at University of Alabama at Birmingham as well as countless masterclasses and workshops across the country. Lexie’s philosophy as a teacher: Stay ready. Stay Sharp. Consistency in your training allows for you to be your best self and ready when opportunities arise!
